CHAPO Pierre - Pierre Chapo design round table

Round solid elm dining table designed by Pierre Chapo (1927-1986). The Seltz workshops in Alsace produced designer Pierre Chapo's furniture.
Pierre Chapo (1927-1987), from a family of craftsmen, he discovered wood techniques from 1947 with a marine carpenter. Trained at the Ecole des Beaux Arts in Paris, architecture section, he will do internships and stays in Scandinavia and Central America. His mentors are Frank Lloyd Wright, Le Corbusier, Ludwig Mies Van der Rohe, Charlotte Perriand, and Isamu Noguchi with whom he shared a sculptural and organic conception of design. Opened his own gallery in Paris in 1958. He designed and produced furniture with clean lines combining design and traditional design in solid wood, particularly Elm. Manufactured first in its workshops in Clamart, then in Gordes, it also delegated the production of certain models to cabinetmakers adhering to its philosophy in the Vosges and in Alsace with the Seltz workshops. Gold medal at the Arts and Crafts Techniques Exhibition in Paris in 1960, he participated in the Salon des Artistes Décorateurs in 1967 where he also won a medal.
