Courtesy box Alsace XVII th

This rare box is the resumption in reduced model of the model of large chest forming part of the furniture present in the castles and beautiful residences in Alsace and along the Rhine in the XVII th century. The facade is punctuated by ringed columns separating bastioned panels, these are lined with sculptures of scrolls, the design of which still seems inspired by the "cartilage" style very fashionable during these periods. Another characteristic, rare in our regions, is the polychrome decor, tortoiseshell style, which adorns the panels and which seems inspired by the fashions developed in the royal cities, in particular by André Charles Boule. These boxes were often carried by their owner during their travels, because of the handle present on the top. Walnut marquetry on resinous frame. Period XVII th century.
