Remarkable color construction for this profile of a young girl, the rendering of the light of the complexion of the face is highlighted by the intensity of the tones of the blue of the bodice and by the essential red of the hair. At the limit of abstraction by the opposition of colors, this work contains the criteria that made the reputation of Jean-Jacques Henner, Grand Prix de Rome in 1858, the most international of Alsatian painters of the 19th century.
