Psyche Carved Wood Work From Brienz Switzerland

Original in design, this rare psyche has three drawers, the mirror is bevelled, set in an oval wooden frame, and can tilt. The mirror fixing consoles are carved with openwork branches, at the top of which sits a baby bird. A couple of marmots throne on either side of the mirror, standing on a pile of rocks, they each hold in their paws, a small blown glass vase engraved with a leafy frieze. The drawers are carved with a decoration of mountain flora. The top that overlooks the large drawer has a sandblasted bottom, engraved with small patterns. Note the incredible finesse of the sculptures and the attention to detail given by the craftsman to the realization of this piece. Folk art work from the Swiss Alps region of Brienz Period late 19th century early 20th century.
