Rhenish Cabinet - Dyonisos and the Philosopher

Rhenish Cabinet - Dyonisos and the Philosopher
Important cabinet comprising the impressive number of 32 drawers, two flaps and a small theater, concealed by two gates. The cabinet also has many secrets, the drawers are still partially covered with period marbled paper.
The doors are clad in cushion panels, surrounded by moldings enclosing paintings of natural and stained maple marquetry, fruitwood, ivory and pewter. In a luxuriant setting of foliage, scrolls, shells, flowers, vines and grapes, two characters evolve. On the left door a scholar, standing and holding a book under his arm, the image of knowledge and knowledge, seems to present the character on the right panel: the latter, a cup in his hand, is seated at a set table offering basket of fruit and jars of wine, seems to be Dyonisos God of the Vine and of pleasures in the cenacle of the Greek deities, which will become Bacchus under the Roman Empire. Note the depth of the pattern design thanks to the shadows obtained by soaking the marquetry elements in hot sand.
