Alsatian. - oil on canvas - dated 18(7)6? monogrammed LPS lower left for Louis-Pierre Spindler (1800-1889), this spectacular and important portrait may be that of a member of the artist's family.

Louis-Pierre Spindler born in Huningue in Alsace, he is the uncle of the artist and marquetry artist Charles Spindler. (1800-1889). An excellent portrait painter, after the Ecole des Beaux Arts in Paris, he began a career in England and returned to France around 1858 to settle in Fontainebleau, while maintaining strong relations with his family in Alsace.
